Zdeněk Fišar graduated at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague in the year 1980. After one year as specialist at the Physical Institute of the Charles University he was postgraduate student at Microbiological Institute of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. After four years as scientist at Institute of Landscape Ecology of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences he has been working from the year 1989 to present time at the Psychiatric Research Unit of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague as the neurochemist and professor.

Main scientific interests: Immunology, Hydrobiology, Aeroecology, Neurochemistry, Psychotropic Drugs, Drugs Abuse, Mental Disorders, Neurodegenerative Disorders
